Hello, and welcome to Naked News, I_m Victoria Sinclair. US President Barack Obama is in the midst of an historic trip to Myanmar. Itis the first time that a sitting US President has visited the country, which is in the throes of a policy overhaul towards democracy. Katherine Curtis has all the developments. Vic, among the people Obama has met with during his visit so far is pro-democracy heroine Aung San Suu Kyi. She spent nearly 15 years under house arrest due to her pro-democracy advocacy. In a joint speech with Suu Kyi, Obama pledged to help support the country as it transitions to democracy.Obama called the transition a remarkable journey, and praised Suu Kyi for proving that human freedom and human dignity cannot be denied. Meanwhile the death toll is rising in the Middle East, as Israel continues to retaliate against rocket strikes fired from Gaza. 94 Palestinians and 3 Israelis have been killed since the violence began last week. A cease-fire is apparently being negotiated, with Egyptian officials saying there are encouraging signs. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he_s ready to expand operations if the rocket attacks continue. Israel has authorized the mobilization of 75-thousand reservists Vic,but there_s been no clear time table as to when and IF a ground assault will happen.You mentioned Egypt is trying to broker a cease fire, they were once Israel_s strongest partner for peace in the region but now with a newly elected government, how are they dealing with this violent turn of events? Well, Egyptian President Mohammed Mursi is in a tight spot. Egyptians overwhelmingly want to punish Israel but Mursi is trying to let cooler heads previal. They_ve taken the lead with Turkey in trying to negotiate a cease fire and with the violence only escalating, the pressure is on.Thanks Kat, We_ll definitely keep you posted on any new developemnts. We_ll finish up this first look at the news with New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg who_s extended the gas rationing program that_s been in place since Hurricane Sandy hit earlier this month. Under the program, only certain cars are allowed to fill up n either odd or even license plate numbers, depending on the day. 70 percent of gas stations have re-opened, and the extreme lines that motorists had experienced have largely diminished. However, because some stations remain closed, and the Thanksgiving holiday is fast approaching, Bloomberg believes that the program is still the best way to avoid gridlock at the pumps.
