Description:
Welcome everyone. I_m Victoria Sinclair and you_re watching Naked News. In the headlines today, Western embassies were on high alert throughout much of the Muslim world this weekend. Their vigilance being in response to several days of Anti-U.S. protests over the now-infamous web video mocking the Prophet Mohammad. With more on this story and the rest of the days news, here_s Laura Connor and Rachelle Wilde. Thanks Vic, unrest caused by that video has yet to subside across a NUMBER of Arab nations. And with election season heading into the home stretch in the US, this is definitely a massive foreign policy headache for American President Barack Obama. Here_s the latest. Over the weekend, Washington ordered all non-essential personnel to leave the US embassy in Sudan after the building came under attack on Friday. Non-essential staff has also been pulled from the Tunisian embassy after a similar attack. Meanwhile, a protest in Pakistan saw 5000 people chanting anti-American slogans in the streets of Lahore. In total, at least nine people were killed in protests throughout numerous Muslim nations, with several more injured. The U.S. Department of Defense believes the worst of the violence may be over, but has called for embassies to observe extreme caution in the coming days. In an unpredictably candid statement, a top Iranian commander has confirmed several units from his country_s revolutionary guard are operating in Syria. General Mohammad Ali Jafari says the group has joined Bashar al-Assad_s government to fight off rebel forces, which have been engaged in a bloody civil war over the past year and a half. Despite his admission, Jafari claims the number of Iranian guards isn_t large enough to be considered a quote, military presence. That said, he_s warned that Iran will deploy a significant amount of troops to the region should it come under attack from U.N. forces. A massive armada of U.S. and British war ships is building up in the Strait of Hormuz. The decision comes amid concerns Israel may consider a pre-emptive military strike on Iran to take out its underground nuclear program. Submarines, battleships, aircraft carriers and minesweepers are now occupying the international shipping lane, where they_ll engage in a series of drills and exercises. Western leaders are convinced Iran will retaliate against any Israeli attack by attempting to either blockade or mine sections of the Strait of Hormuz. And that_s your first look at the headlines, everyone. We_ll be right back.
