VS) Welcome to Naked News, Iim VS. Hereis whatis making news today. At least 78 people are dead in yet another apparent massacre in Syria. Troops and militia loyal to President Bashar al-Assad (bah-SHAHR ahl AH-sahd) are accused of the killings in a central Syrian village near Hama (hah-MAH). Itis believed that over half of the victims are women and children. Officials call the claims ìcompletely falsei, and say troops intervened after a ìterroristi group targeted innocent civilians. The alleged massacre happened just before the UN Security Council was scheduled to convene to review the Syrian situation. In the 15 months since the uprising began, 13-thousand lives have been lost.Federal agents in Puerto Rico have arrested DOZENS of people suspected of smuggling drugs into the US. 2 drug rings in particular thought to be responsible, were at the center of the busts. Eila Adams has been watching this developing story and joins us now with the latest. EA) Vic, 36 people in all were arrested including airline workers and baggage handlers at San Juanis international airport. They_re all accused being part of 2 criminal organizations that were responsible for smuggling huge amounts of drugs into the US via commercial aircraft. Itis believed that one of the drug rings has been using San Juanis airport for over a decade. 45 people were indicted including a dozen current and former employees of American Airlines. The DEA claims that over 61 thousand pounds of cocaine was smuggled through Puerto Rico and into the US since 1999. And former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak (HOHS-nee moo-BAH-rahk) is in intensive care after his health took a turn for the worse. He was reportedly placed on a ventilator several times while in the ICU. He was taken to a prison hospital Saturday after being receiving a life sentence for his role in the deaths of pro-democracy demonstrators last year. The state-run news organization MENA says that officials are suggesting that he be moved to either a military or private hospital. It doesn_t look good for him VicVS) I guess facing a life behind bars will do that to people Eila.EA) No doubt, and it gets even worse.
