According to Pyongyang, they_ve sentenced an American citizen to 15 years in a hard labour camp. It_s a move many view as a direct challenge to Washington. Erica Stevens has more on this story.ES) Kat, the man in question is 44-year old Pae Jun-ho (PAY JOON HO), or Kenneth Bae as he was known in the US. He was arrested last November during a trip to a special trade zone near North Korea_s northeast border with China. Pyongyang has charged him with anti-government crimes, and according to state-run media, Pae confessed to trying to overthrow the government. ES) In Saudi Arabia, five are dead and two others seriously ill from what health officials are calling a Sars-like virus. They say the bug causes pneumonia and kidney failure, and is from the same family as the infamous virus that erupted in Asia in 2003. The Saudi health ministry says it_s taking all necessary precautions, and have begun testing others who may be infected.ES) Fortunately Kat, the threat to the general population is believed to be pretty small.KC) Let_s hope so. Any word on where the bug is coming from?ES) That_s one of the big questions right now, and the short answer is that we just don_t know yet. As Peyton Priestly reports, health officials hope to determine whether they were victims of a chemical weapon attack.PP) Kat, the samples were collected earlier this week after numerous Syrians were rushed to a hospital at the Turkish border for breathing issues. Both the U.S. and Britain say theyive found ìlimited but persuasivei evidence the deadly nerve gas sarin SAIR-in has been deployed in the two-year conflict. Turkish authorities stress their findings will only confirm whether toxic chemicals are present, and likely wonit determine whether government or rebel forces deployed them.PP) Keeping with Syria, a new poll has found that most Americans are against intervening in the countryis civil war. According to ReutersIpsos ROY-turs IP-zoze, a mere 27 percent of respondents would support a U.S. military presence in the region, even IF itis confirmed Syria has been using chemical weapons on its citizens.
