As you can imagine, power companies are scrambling to get things back to normal.Here_s the story.As much as half of the country of 1-point-2 billion people was without electricity on Tuesday afternoon. The blackout affected people living in the eastern and northeast regions of India. Three power grids have now collapsed in what_s being called one of biggest blackouts in history. Fortunately, the 620 million people affected by the blackout are used to power outages, and key buildings like hospitals and airports are equipped with backup generators. Still, the consecutive blackouts are considered an embarrassing incident for a nation looking to establish itself on the international scene. In other news, police in Sydney, Australia are celebrating a record drug bust of heroin and methamphetamine. They found 525 million dollars worth of the illegal drugs stashed in terracotta pots from Thailand. The 675 pounds of meth was the largest seizure of the drug in Aussie history. The 555 pounds worth of heroin was the nation_s third-largest haul.The drugs were hidden in 32-hundred terracotta pots, and were found in Sydney_s Port Botany. Seven people – including 4 Hong Kong nationals – have been arrested. The seizures and arrests come on the heels of a year-long investigation with help from US authorities.We_ll wrap up this first look at your Naked News with some GOOD news for Haiti. Since 1994, United Nations peacekeepers have served to protect the island nation but that could soon change. Brazil and Ecuador have agreed to help Haiti build an army of its own. Haitian President Michel Martelly says the nation would rather be protected by an army of its own people. Brazil has committed to helping Haiti with troop training and engineering support, and will be sending a team to Haiti within the next few weeks to assess the situation there. US and UN officials are less happy with the news. They fear the army_s development could hinder training and equipment supplies for a new civilian police force.
