This is your News Off The Top At least 2 senior officials of the Syrian government were killed in what appears to be a suicide bombing in Damascus. The country_s defense minister and his deputy n who is also al-Assad_s brother in law n were killed instantly in the blast. Other senior officials caught in the blast were the Interior Minister and the National Security Chief. The man suspected of being the suicide bomber was actually working as a bodyguard for al-Assad_s most trusted cabinet members. This attack comes as rebels are mounting a major push in Damascus. A statement by the armed forces called the rebels delusional if they think they can twist the government_s arm by killing officials. Laszlo Csatary the number one fugitive on the Simon Wiesenthal Centre_s most wanted list, has been taken into custody in Hungary. His whereabouts were discovered by reporters from the UK tabloid The Sun. It appears that the 97-year-old had been hiding in plain sight, under his own name, for many years.Prosecutors are asking for Csatary to be placed under house arrest and his passport confiscated. He was sentenced to death in absentia in 1948 by a Czechoslovakian court for his role in sending thousands of Jews to Auschwitz. He escaped to Canada, where for decades we worked as an art dealer. He disappeared in 1997 after Canadian authorities stripped him of his citizenship. In Afghanistan, officials say that a bomb that was magnetically attached to a truck exploded, destroying 22 NATO supply vehicles. Many of the vehicles were loaded with fuel. The blast occurred at 2am, while the convoy was pulled over. Only one person was injured. The Taliban has taken responsibility for the blast, referring to NATO as invaders. Meanwhile, 10 suspected Taliban fighters were caught in a neighboring province trying to attach similar bombs to OTHER supply trucks.
